A step-by-step guide to installing EZGO RXV fender flares on 2008-2015 models, with fit checks, hardware tips, and common mistakes to avoid.
Quick answer
Test-fit the flares before drilling, center each flare on its wheel arch, and snug the supplied hardware in a cross pattern. On 2008-2015 EZGO RXV carts, the main fit variables are tire size and wheel offset, so check clearance at full steering lock before you commit to screw holes.
Why tire and wheel setup changes the fit
Fender flares are most useful when you run wider or more aggressive tires, but that same setup is what makes fitment tricky. A tire that sits flush with the stock body may barely need a flare, while an offset wheel that pushes the tire outward can leave the flare looking undersized or catching on the tread.
Before installing, turn the steering fully left and right and bounce the suspension by hand. Look for the closest point between tire and fender lip. If you see less than a finger’s width of gap, a flare won’t create clearance—it may just rub. In that case, address wheel offset or tire size first.
What the hardware set does and doesn’t cover
The EZGO RXV fender flare set includes front and rear flares plus hardware, but it does not include drill bits, a nut driver, or touch-up paint. The supplied screws are intended for the flare-to-body joint; if your cart has existing holes from a previous flare or trim, you may need to enlarge or seal them.
Plastic body panels on the RXV can crack if you overtighten. Use a hand nut driver or a drill with a clutch set low, and stop as soon as the screw head contacts the flare. A rubber washer or a dab of silicone at each hole helps keep water out of the body cavity.
Step-by-step installation
- Clean and inspect the wheel arches: Wash and dry the fender lips, then look for cracks, previous holes, or heavy mud buildup. Wipe the mounting surface with a degreaser so the flare sits flat. Skip this and trapped dirt can hold the flare away from the body, causing uneven gaps.
- Test-fit all four flares before drilling: Hold each flare in place by hand and check that the curve follows the wheel arch. Confirm the front and rear flares are on the correct sides—most sets are side-specific. If a flare rocks or leaves a wide gap, stop and check the part number against your cart’s year before making holes.
- Mark hole locations with a center punch or tape: Use the flare’s mounting holes as a template. Mark each hole with a center punch or a piece of masking tape, then double-check spacing against the flare. Measure twice: a hole drilled too high can leave the flare sitting proud of the body.
- Drill pilot holes and seal bare edges: Drill pilot holes slightly smaller than the supplied screws. Remove any plastic shavings and dab touch-up paint or silicone on the bare edge to prevent rust or cracking. A step drill or deburring tool keeps holes clean and stops cracks from spreading.
- Start screws by hand, then snug in a cross pattern: Thread each screw by hand first to avoid cross-threading. Tighten in a cross pattern—top, bottom, then sides—until the flare is snug against the body. Do not overtighten. If the flare dimples around a screw, back it off a quarter turn; the plastic is softer than metal.
- Check clearance at full steering lock: Lower the cart, turn the wheels fully left and right, and bounce the front end. Listen and look for contact between tire and flare. Any rubbing at full lock means you need to recheck wheel offset or tire size, not just tighten the flare.
