Step-by-step instructions for installing an LED light kit on a 2014+ EZGO TXT Valor. Covers wiring, mounting, and common pitfalls to avoid.
Quick answer
To install a light kit on a 2014+ EZGO TXT Valor, mount the headlights in the factory bumper slots, route the harness along the frame, and connect to the 12V battery or reducer. The LSI Route 66 kit is a popular choice that includes everything you need.
Choosing the right kit for your TXT Valor
The 2014+ EZGO TXT Valor uses a different front cowl than earlier TXT models. Most light kits designed for the Valor include a custom bezel that fits the factory bumper cutouts. The LSI Route 66 Light Kit comes with rugged injection-molded plastic bezels that match the factory openings exactly, so you won't need to trim or modify the body.
If you see a "basic" vs "deluxe" option, the difference is usually the number of lights or the type of switch. Basic kits include headlights and tail lights; deluxe kits add turn signals or a brake light function.
Tools and prep work
You'll need a socket set (mostly 10mm and 13mm), a flathead screwdriver, wire strippers, electrical tape or heat shrink, and a test light or multimeter. The 2014+ Valor has a 12V accessory port under the dash, but it's not always wired for high-amperage loads. Plan to connect the light kit directly to the battery or a dedicated voltage reducer if you have a 48V cart.
Installation steps
- Remove the front cowl: Remove the two screws under the glove box and the two screws at the top of the dash. Lift the cowl straight up and off. Common mistake: Forcing the cowl without releasing the clips at the sides can crack the plastic.
- Mount the headlight bezels: Insert the LSI Route 66 headlight bezels into the factory bumper cutouts from the front. Secure them with the included screws from behind. Checkpoint: Make sure the bezel sits flush—if it doesn't, the cutout may have debris or the bezel may be upside down.
- Route the main harness: Run the harness along the driver-side frame rail, using zip ties to secure it away from moving parts. Leave slack near the headlights and tail light area. Common mistake: Routing the harness too tight near the steering column can cause pinching when turning.
- Connect the tail lights: Mount the tail light assemblies to the rear bumper or bag well using the provided brackets. Connect the tail light wires to the harness. Checkpoint: Test the tail lights before fully tightening the brackets—some carts have reversed polarity on the factory brake light circuit. If your cart has a factory brake light switch, you can tap into it for the brake light function on deluxe kits.
- Wire the power and ground: Connect the red wire to the positive terminal of the 12V battery (or the output of a voltage reducer). Connect the black wire to a clean chassis ground or the battery negative. Common mistake: Grounding to a painted surface will cause intermittent operation. Scrape the paint off at the ground point.
- Test all functions and reassemble: Turn on the headlights and check low/high beams. Test the tail lights and any turn signals. If everything works, reinstall the front cowl and tighten all hardware. Checkpoint: If the lights are dim, your 48V cart may need a voltage reducer instead of a single battery tap. For a cleaner look, hide the switch under the dash or install it in a pre-cut slot on the cowl.
